Our History
The beginning of Grassroots Germantown dates to 2008, when Lynn Carey, Carol Harder, and some like-minded friends from Germantown met at a local event where they were introduced to Obama For America (OFA).
This group organized under the OFA banner in Germantown and worked to support important issues and legislation, including the passing of the Affordable Care Act and election of progressive candidates. OFA steadily grew during subsequent years and eventually transitioned to Organizing for America. When President Obama left office in 2017, Organizing for America evolved into Grassroots Germantown and joined the national Indivisible movement.
Grassroots Germantown continues to chart a path of rapid growth yet remains steadfast in its mission of protecting democracy and electing progressive candidates at a local, state, and national level.
